Book Review: Why Things Bite BackPosted: October 31, 2011 | Author: Greg Linster | Filed under: Book Reviews | Leave a comment »
Why Things Bite Back was published in 1996 and it was crazy to see what has changed, both culturally and technologically, since then. Our understanding of many things technological have dramatically improved since the book was published, yet the importance of the principles discussed in the book remain unchanged. Unchecked technological optimism is incredibly dangerous, but rampant technophobia is equally foolish. Technology certainly can, but doesn’t necessarily, make the world a better place. Oftentimes, the unintended consequences of technology, both positively and negatively, have a greater effect on our society than the intended consequences.
