The 10 Best Books I Read in 2011

with 4 comments

I’ve decided to make a best-books list for 2011 (and I think this will be an annual tradition going forward).  Please note: these are books that I read in 2011, not books that were necessarily published in 2011.  Whittling this list down was tougher than I initially imagined.  What can I say, I was fortunate enough to read a lot of great books this past year.  In no particular order, here are the 10 best books I read in 2011.  Please feel free to share your favorite reads in 2011 in the comments section.

Wow, you read a lot! I wondered about Alain de Botton’s book on work…it strikes me he has been a professional writer since he left university, so he’s never worked in an office (much less a factory). Sum i loved: really great book.
    All best

Thanks for the comment, Jules!  I have a hunch that you would really like The Pleasures and Sorrows of Work.

     OK, here I go.

The New Ruthless Economy — focuses on Taylorism and Fordism through the lens of the systems and methods of the modern workplace.

The Whale and the Reactor — think Lanier, just better written, and more sweeping

On the Internet — Continental philosopher Hubert Dreyfus takes a phenomenological look at new media

The Game — AFC turned player sees the error of his ways

Shop Class as Soul Craft The best look at the philosophy of work since Zen and the Art of Motorcycle maintenance.

Thats all I can remember for now.
